Calligraphy is, for me, a practice of concentration and simplicity. The act of writing brings together gesture, rhythm and material — the firmness of the stroke, the flow of ink, the texture of paper and the resistance of the writing tool.

I am interested in the expressive potential of the written mark, from recognizable letters to abstract graphic signs that no longer need to be read. Meaning can remain present, but sometimes the gesture itself becomes the message.

Emotional balance, discipline and natural imperfection are all part of this practice. The choice of text, format, paper and writing tool shapes each work, while the directness of the gesture leaves room for both intention and spontaneity. Conveying something with very little is what continues to draw me to calligraphy.
